B2 Listening Practice Test 2

Carla: Good morning, Greenfield Print, Carla speaking. Henry: Morning Carla, it's Henry from Pedal Anatolia. I'm calling about the brochure order we placed on Monday. Carla: Of course. That's five hundred copies on matt paper, delivery next Monday, if I remember rightly. Henry: That's it, but I've had second thoughts. My business partner pointed out that we could really do with more, since there's a travel fair in Ankara in two weeks. Would eight hundred be possible? Carla: It should be, though it would push the delivery back. With five hundred we could manage Monday, but with eight hundred I'd say Wednesday at the earliest. Henry: Wednesday's fine, as long as it arrives before the fair on the twentieth. Carla: It would, comfortably. Now, the price per copy drops once you go over seven hundred, so eight hundred wouldn't cost as much extra as you might think. I'll email you the new figure within the hour. Henry: Great. One more thing. Could we switch to recycled paper? I assumed it would be a lot dearer. Carla: It's only slightly more, about three percent. Plenty of clients are asking for it now. Henry: Then let's do that. I'd better double-check with my partner, but I'm almost sure she'll agree. Carla: No problem. Just confirm by email and I'll start printing this afternoon.

Carla: Welcome back to Community Matters. This morning I'm in the hall on Mill Lane, where thirty or so people are sitting around tables with screwdrivers, sewing kits and, I have to say, a very sorry-looking toaster. With me is David, who set up this repair cafe three years ago. David, did you expect it to take off like this? David: Not remotely. We began in a corner of the library with six volunteers, and I assumed we'd see a handful of people each month. Now we get around forty items every session. Carla: And do they all get fixed? David: Not all, no. About seven in ten, which I think is pretty respectable. The rest are usually beyond saving, or the part has been discontinued. Carla: It must feel like you're saving the planet one lamp at a time. David: Well, I'd be wary of putting it quite like that. Obviously it keeps things out of landfill, but honestly, what keeps people coming back is the company. Folk arrive with a broken kettle and leave having chatted to three neighbours. Carla: Is there anything you're short of? David: Yes, actually. We've got plenty of people who are good with electrical things, but hardly anyone who can mend clothes. If any of your listeners have a sewing machine and a free Saturday morning, we'd love to meet them. Carla: Lovely. The hall is open every Saturday from ten.

Grace: Thanks for coming in, Jack. I'd like to start by asking what attracted you to this role. Jack: Well, I've volunteered at the reserve on and off for two years, mostly leading school groups. When I saw the vacancy, I thought, this is a chance to turn something I enjoy into a proper career. Grace: Good. Tell me about a time when something went wrong with a group. Jack: Funny you should ask. Last spring, a class of nine-year-olds arrived an hour early, and the guide who was meant to meet them was stuck in traffic. Rather than panicking, I improvised a bug hunt around the pond, and the teacher later wrote to say it was the highlight of their trip. Grace: Impressive. And where would you say you're weakest? Jack: Paperwork, to be honest. I tend to leave it until the end of the day, which isn't ideal. I've started using a checklist, and it's helping, although I wouldn't claim to have cracked it yet. Grace: I appreciate the candour. The role involves quite a lot of weekend work. Would that be a problem? Jack: Not at all, provided I get a couple of weekdays off in return. Grace: That's standard. Right, we're seeing two more candidates this week, so we'll let you know on Friday. If we go ahead, we'd want a second interview with the manager, Dr. Adams. Jack: That sounds fine. Thank you.
