Privacy Policy

This explains what data Lexara collects, why, and how it's handled.
1. What we collect
- Account data: your email address and a securely hashed password (we never store your password in plain text).
- Usage data: your plan (Free/Lexara+/Lexara Pro), whether it's billed monthly or yearly, and how many practice items you've used this month, so limits work correctly.
- Payment data: handled entirely by Lemon Squeezy, our merchant of record. We receive only a customer/subscription reference, never your card number.
- Session cookies: a cookie that keeps you logged in. It's necessary for the site to function and isn't used for advertising or tracking across other sites.
- AI tool text: when you use the grammar checker, paraphraser, summarizer, IELTS Writing scorer, or generate a topic-practice exercise, the text you type or the exercise topic is sent to Anthropic's Claude API to produce a result. We don't store this text after the response is returned, and it isn't used to train our own models.
- Product usage events: we log a small number of events on our own server (e.g. "diagnostic started," "lesson completed," "account created") to understand what's working, tied to an anonymous cookie and, once you sign up, your account. These events carry only things like a lesson id, which exam paper you opened, a score, a rough level, and the domain name of the site that linked you to us (for example "google.com" — never the full address or search words) — never the text you typed, your email, or your password. This is entirely first-party: it doesn't go to any third-party analytics company.
- Learning progress and classes: XP, streaks and a friendly auto-generated leaderboard name (which you can hide). If you join a teacher's class with a code, that teacher sees the nickname you chose for the class, your XP and streak, and which assigned activities you completed — never your email address. Course ticks, level-test results and your chosen level are kept in your own browser; when you finish a level test we log only an anonymous "test completed" event with the resulting level.
2. What we don't do
We don't sell your data. We don't share it with advertisers. We don't use third-party analytics or ad trackers on this site — the usage events above stay on our own server.
3. Why we collect it
Purely to run the service: to log you in, remember your plan, enforce fair usage limits, and process payments if you upgrade.
4. Where it's stored
Account data is stored in a Postgres database hosted by our infrastructure provider. Payment processing happens on Lemon Squeezy's systems, which are PCI-DSS compliant.
5. Your rights
You can ask us to delete your account and associated data at any time via our Contact page. We'll remove it, aside from records we're legally required to keep (such as payment records for tax purposes).
6. Children
Lexara is intended for learners aged 16 and over. If you believe a younger child has created an account, contact us and we'll remove it.
7. Changes
If this policy changes materially, we'll update the date below and, where appropriate, notify account holders.
