Hana lived in Seoul and she loved computers. At her school there was a robot club, but she was too shy to join it. Every Tuesday she walked past the classroom and looked through the window. One day the club teacher, Mr Park, saw her. "Come in," he said. "We need someone with new ideas." Hana went in slowly. The students were building a small robot that could pick up a pen. The robot was not working well. Hana looked at the robot for a few minutes. Then she said, "Maybe the problem is the battery. It is too weak." She changed it, and the robot picked up the pen at once. Everyone clapped. Hana was very happy, and she joined the club that day.

1. Why did Hana not join the club at first?

2. What did the students want the robot to do?

3. What was wrong with the robot?

The first bicycles were very different from ours. In 1817, a German man called Karl von Drais made a wooden machine with two wheels. It had no pedals. The rider sat on it and pushed the ground with his feet. Later, in the 1860s, French makers added pedals to the front wheel. These bikes were hard to ride and not comfortable, so people called them "bone shakers". In the 1880s, an English maker built the "safety bicycle". It had two wheels of the same size and a chain, like modern bikes. It was safer and easier to ride. Soon, millions of people used bicycles to go to work. Today there are more than a billion bicycles in the world.

1. What did the first bicycle not have?

2. Why did people call the later bikes "bone shakers"?

3. What was new about the safety bicycle?

4. What did many people do with bicycles?

Ayran is a cold yogurt drink. It is easy to make, and you only need three things: yogurt, cold water and salt. First, put four big spoons of plain yogurt in a large jug. Then add one glass of cold water. Mix them well with a fork. Next, add a little salt. Taste the drink. If it is too thick, add a little more water. If it is not salty enough, add some more salt. Put the jug in the fridge for twenty minutes. Before you serve it, stir it again. Ayran is great with kebab, pide or on a hot day in summer. Don't forget to drink it cold!

1. What do you need to make ayran?

2. What do you do after you mix the yogurt and the water?

3. What can you do if the drink is too thick?

4. How long is the ayran in the fridge?
