Oliver was nine years old, and he was afraid of water. His parents wanted him to learn to swim, so on Saturday morning he went to the local pool in Leeds. The teacher, Miss Brown, was friendly. "Don't worry, Oliver," she said. "First, we are going to sit on the side and move our feet in the water." Oliver did that. It was fun, and the water was warm. Then Miss Brown gave him a float. He held it with both hands and kicked his legs. At the end of the lesson he swam across the small pool by himself. "I did it!" he shouted. His mum, who was watching, clapped loudly. Now Oliver can't wait for next Saturday.
