Honey bees work very hard. A bee flies from flower to flower and drinks a sweet liquid called nectar. It carries the nectar in a special part of its body and brings it back to the hive. In the hive, other bees take the nectar and move it from mouth to mouth. Then they put it into small wax rooms. The nectar has a lot of water in it, so the bees fan it with their wings. The water goes away and the nectar becomes thick. This is honey. Bees make honey for food, especially for the winter, when there are no flowers. One bee makes less than one small spoon of honey in its whole life, so a jar of honey needs the work of many bees.

1. What do bees drink from flowers?

2. Why do the bees fan the nectar with their wings?
