Cappadocia is a region in central Turkey. It is famous for its strange rock shapes, which people call fairy chimneys. Wind and rain made them over millions of years. Every morning, hundreds of hot air balloons rise into the sky above the valleys. Tourists from all over the world come to see this. The best time to fly is early, at sunrise, because the wind is usually calm then. It is also cooler. A balloon has a big basket. The pilot stands in the middle and controls the height. He makes the air inside the balloon hotter with a gas burner, and the balloon goes up. When he lets the air cool, it comes down slowly. A flight usually takes about one hour.
