Review: A Day at the Science Museum
Writing
Writing task
Before you submit, check: ✓ I gave a clear overall opinion near the beginning ✓ I described one exhibit or activity in specific detail ✓ I made one criticism politely and offered a suggestion ✓ I finished with a clear recommendation and a reason
Your class has just visited a science museum, and your school magazine wants reviews from students. Write a review of about 170 words. Say what the visit was like, describe the exhibition or activity you enjoyed most, mention one thing that could have been better, and say whether you would recommend the visit to other classes and why.

Model answer: Our class trip to the city science museum last Thursday was one of the most enjoyable school days I can remember. We left early in the morning, and by ten o'clock we were standing in a huge hall full of machines, models and experiments that visitors were actually encouraged to touch.
The highlight for me was the "Light and Colour" room. In one corner, you could stand in front of a screen and watch your shadow change colour as you moved, while in another a guide showed us how a simple prism splits sunlight into a rainbow. Not only was it beautiful, but it also explained something I had struggled to understand in physics lessons for weeks.
If I had to criticise anything, it would be the schedule. We were given only forty minutes for lunch, and the queue at the café was so long that many of us barely had time to eat. A slightly longer break, or perhaps permission to bring packed lunches, would have made the day more relaxing.
Nevertheless, I would strongly recommend the museum to other classes. It makes difficult ideas seem simple, and you leave with plenty of questions to ask your teacher.
