Writing task

Before you submit, check: ✓ I used a formal greeting and sign-off (Dear Sir or Madam / Yours faithfully) ✓ I included the key facts: what I ordered, the date and the order number ✓ I stated clearly what action I expect and by when ✓ I stayed polite but firm and avoided informal language

You ordered a set of textbooks from an online bookshop called PageTurner two weeks ago, but the parcel has still not arrived and nobody has replied to your first message. Write a formal email of about 170 words to the customer service department. Explain what you ordered and when, describe what has happened so far, say what you expect the company to do, and mention a deadline.

Model answer: Dear Sir or Madam, I am writing to complain about a parcel that has still not been delivered, despite having been ordered over two weeks ago. On 2 March, I placed an order with PageTurner for three English literature textbooks (order number PT-48215), which I need for my course starting next month. The website promised delivery within five working days, and I paid an additional fee for express shipping. However, the parcel has not arrived, and the tracking page has shown the same message, "Processing at depot", for the last ten days. On 9 March, I sent a message through your online contact form, but I have not received any reply. This lack of communication is particularly disappointing, as I had always found your service reliable in the past. I would therefore be grateful if you could investigate the matter immediately and let me know exactly where my order is. If the books cannot be delivered by Friday 22 March, I would like a full refund, including the express shipping fee, so that I can buy them elsewhere. I look forward to hearing from you shortly. Yours faithfully, Mert Yıldız
